In June 2020, when Liancy and Annie returned to their hometown, they noticed that many batik fabrics sold at tourist attractions were printed fabrics with Terengganu-inspired motifs.

They were often labelled as authentic Terengganu batik, even though they were not truly produced in Terengganu.

Meanwhile, genuine Terengganu handmade batik was placed at the bottom of the shelves, almost hidden from sight.

They were surprised and deeply saddened to see Terengganu batik being overshadowed by the fast fashion era and the rapid growth of mass production from overseas.

That moment became the reason they made a decision —

to seek out and bring forward true Terengganu batik for those who still appreciate the beauty, value, and soul of this traditional handmade craft.

This is where Chantek’s journey began.
